Contribution by AG- Dorset I
have just recently had to move a child on for Kinship Care after caring for
this child for nearly 2 years. It is probably the most painful thing that I
have had to do.Even though Social Workers warn you not to become too
attached, it is alot easy to say than do- especially when you feel the child
is not going to a better place.A young baby or any child I believe can sense
when your feelings for them are not genuine or deep and I believe every
child needs to feel that sense of love that instills security in them.So
future Foster Carers need to know that you can get very close to a child and
need to be able to deal with the pain of a child having to move on, even
when you do not believe that this is in their best interests.Foster Carers
views in cases like this are too easily ignored by professionals and the
courts which can leave you feeling powerless and undervalued. However, this
should not stop you trying to voice your opinion and fight for what in your
opinion is right for the child, this may not make you popular with the
powers that be, but we are failing these children if we do not make the
attempt. Please help
